Are You Uncertain About Uncertainty?

چکیده
The role of sampling and measurement uncertainty in assessing production process capability is examined, using content uniformity testing as an example. An expanded components of variance model is proposed for consideration during risk assessment and mitigation studies, with emphasis that either empirical (“top-down”) or model-based (“bottom-up”) approaches to estimation of uncertainty can be equally valuable in completing an expanded production process characterization (PPC) study.

SOME PROPERTIES OF UNCERTAIN INTEGRAL
Uncertainty theory is a mathematical methodology for dealing withnon-determinate phenomena in nature. As we all know, uncertainprocess and uncertain integral are important contents of uncertaintytheory, so it is necessary to have deep research. This paperpresents the definition and discusses some properties of strongcomonotonic uncertain process. Besides, some useful formulas ofuncertain integr...
متن کاملRobust DEA under discrete uncertain data: a case study of Iranian electricity distribution companies
Crisp input and output data are fundamentally indispensable in traditional data envelopment analysis (DEA). However, the real-world problems often deal with imprecise or ambiguous data. In this paper, we propose a novel robust data envelopment model (RDEA) to investigate the efficiencies of decision-making units (DMU) when there are discrete uncertain input and output data. The method is based ...
متن کاملUncertain<T>: A First-Order Type for Uncertain Data
Sampled data from sensors, the web, and people is inherently probabilistic. Because programming languages use discrete types (floats, integers, and booleans), applications, ranging from GPS navigation to web search to polling, express and reason about uncertainty in idiosyncratic ways. This mismatch causes three problems. (1) Using an estimate as a fact introduces errors (walking through walls)...
متن کاملValuation Uncertainty and Imperfect Introspection in Second-Price Auctions
In auction theory, agents are typically presumed to have perfect knowledge of their valuations. In practice, though, they may face barriers to this knowledge due to transaction costs or bounded rationality. Modeling and analyzing such settings has been the focus of much recent work, though a canonical model of such domains has not yet emerged. We begin by proposing a taxonomy of auction models ...
متن کاملGovernment and Central Bank Interaction under Uncertainty: A Differential Games Approach
Abstract Today, debt stabilization in an uncertain environment is an important issue. In particular, the question how fiscal and monetary authorities should deal with this uncertainty is of much importance. Especially for some developing countries such as Iran, in which on average 60 percent of government revenues comes from oil, and consequently uncertainty about oil prices has a large effec...
متن کاملThe uncertainty of science and the science of uncertainty.
H alfway through Roberto Bolaño's chef d'oeuvre 2666: A Novel (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2004), one character declares, " If you know, you know, if you do not know, you learn. " In that book, 4 academics, a journalist, and several policemen search for the bizarre truth behind a horrific series of murders. Of course, like in many of Bolano's books, the ending remains open and the truth elusive,...
